The idea for these activities grew out of the ELVIS (English Language Volunteers In Schools) Program, established in March 2006, in Jakarta, Indonesia, in collaboration with Yayasan Pustaka Kelana (The Wandering Books Foundation). The ELVIS program partners English-speaking expatriates with local classroom teachers. The volunteers visit the classroom once per week and bring an English activity to help the teacher enhance his/her English lessons. In this way students get to hear a native English speaker on a regular basis, and the teachers get new ideas for teaching English. All of the lesson and activity ideas developed and used in this program have been made available in book form to teachers in Indonesia and are now available on this website. Additionally, newly developed lessons and activities will be added as they are classroom-tested.
